Needless to say, new mothers have a lot on their plates, and almost endless responsibilities. Not only does a new baby need nearly constant personal care, but a new mother must also maintain her own schedule and life, and with the baby involved that can be very difficult to manage. This is one reason that many brand new mothers have found that they benefit quite a bit from some of the features of mobile smart phones. That may seem a bit simple, but the fact is just about any smart phone you could pick up from O2 these days has a number of capabilities and features that can be of great assistance for a busy mother trying to manage her life.

To begin with, smart phones make basic aspects of life more convenient, and do so instantaneously. With constant access to a calendar and personal schedule, all of your contacts, the Internet, and your personal email, all on a device that can fit in your pocket, you can actually save a great deal of time on an average day. This can leave you with more time to take care of other aspects of your life specifically as a new mother – for example, you may find that you have a bit more time to work on burning off the baby fat, which, conveniently enough, your smart phone can also help you with! There is a very active market for fitness-related apps, many of which can be useful for the difficult task of shedding baby fat. Here are a few examples:

• MyFitnessPal – One of the most useful fitness-related apps available on smart phones, MyFitnessPal is essentially an advanced calorie counter. It keeps track of your daily caloric intake, taking into account both what you eat, and what you shed through exercise. Additionally, the app allows you to set a weight loss goal, and actively tracks your progress for you, which can help you to see clearly what works and doesn’t work for shedding weight.
• Nike Training Club – If you want a personal trainer, but you don’t have time or inclination to actually go to the gym and work with someone in person, this is a handy app. Essentially, the app shows you how to do a number of different workouts, and can both motivate you and track your progress.
• Fooducate Nutrition Scanner – There are plenty of apps out there featuring large libraries of foods and calorie counts, and they can be helpful for letting you know what you’re putting in your body. This particular app goes a bit further, allowing you to scan the UPC on foods to get the full nutritional statistics and facts of those foods. If you are making a significant effort to eat more healthily, this is a great app to have on hand.
